Loyal To a Fault

When you sit on the Vineyard Patio at Hare, imagine the 100 acres being farmed by Nathaniel Haines and his family in 1785. Nathaniel was the son of Joseph Haines, a Captain who served the Crown in the Rangers Corp based in Fort Niagara. After the Revolutionary War, Joseph, an Empire Loyalist, settled on 300 acres of land granted to him for service, 100 of which was then given to Nathaniel, who originally grew potatoes and buckwheat on the land that now produces the wine you’re enjoying.
